Graduates and interns from the award-winning education program Biotech Partners will celebrate their accomplishments at BRAVO!

This year’s event highlights graduates and interns accomplishments garnered through Biotech Partners’ unique and transformative Career Technical Education (CTE) program that introduces low income and minority high school students to the bioscience industry. This year’s BRAVO! event is sponsored by Onyx Pharmaceuticals, BioMarin, Boehringer Ingelheim and the City of Berkeley. Additional sponsorship opportunities are still available.

During BRAVO! Biotech Partners summer interns holding various technical positions within the biotech industry present a science poster exhibition that shares the experiences and knowledge acquired during their paid professional training at bioscience companies and institutions including, Alameda County Sherriff’s Office Crime Lab in San Leandro, Bayer HealthCare in Berkeley, Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital, Forensic Analytical in Hayward, Highland Hospital in Oakland, Joint BioEnergy Institute (JBEI) in Emeryville, Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, Libby Laboratories in Berkeley, U.S.D.A. in Albany, Xoma in Berkeley and three UC Berkeley Labs.

Invited judges from diverse backgrounds and professions (scientists, non-scientists, company CEOs, school district and college administrators and instructors, elected and appointed officials, etc.) review the posters and presentations, and award prizes.

Following the poster exhibition, Biotech Partners will honor the interns, 2014 graduating classes of the Biotech Academies of Berkeley High School and Oakland Technical High School and this year’s graduates of Biotech Partners’ Community College Bioscience Career Institute.

Biotech Partners, over the last 21 years, has been providing a comprehensive, hands-on academic and job training program in the sciences to Berkeley and Oakland public school students typically from populations underrepresented in the sciences – especially students of color, young women and those from low-income households. The program has a 100% high school graduation rate and 100% college acceptance rate.
