Celebrating the Spring 2014 FAST Companies
Five compelling life science startups presented their companies to a distinguished audience of investors, life science startups and executives from all segments of the industry on June 12, 2014 at Byers Auditorium in Genentech Hall at UCSF Mission Bay. The Fellows All-Star Team (FAST) Pitch Showcase & Celebration marked the culmination of the Spring 2014 program during which the five FAST companies met with a high-level team of advisors specifically chosen to work with them over eight weeks to help strengthen their business model and commercialization strategy.
Colleen Cutliffe, CEO of Whole Biome, an early-stage microbiome company, stated, “I have gotten so much out of it and will continue to reap the benefits of ongoing relationships with our advisers as well as the people they have – and will – introduce us to.”
The acclaimed FAST program draws on a high-level team of advisors to provide experience, contacts and counsel to the selected startups. BayBio has been delighted by the caliber of individuals from the Bay Area’s life science community who have stepped forward to work with the FAST companies. MJ Whitehouse, Founder of JumpStart BioDevelopment , who served as an advisor on two FAST teams had this to say: “The advisors are first rate and I am honored to be among them….What you did not tell me was that I would have so much fun.” A partial list of advisors and their bios can be found here.
The Spring 2014 FAST cycle generated just over 430 advisory hours, valued at $110,000. To date, the two program cycles have generated 804 advisory hours valued at over $200,000 for the nine companies who have been through the program to date. Since participating in FAST, they have raised over $14 million.
The call for applications for the Fall 2014 program is open now. Those interested in applying for or serving as advisors/reviewers for the program should contact Steve Karp at FAST@baybio.org.
