CLSI’s FAST International Program Prepares Early-Stage Japanese Companies for JPMorgan
In one of the latest iterations of its expanding FAST International program, CLSI worked with six emerging Japanese life science programs to prepare for first-time appearances at the Biotech Showcase during the annual JP Morgan Conference (JPM) in San Francisco. The technologies presented included therapeutics, a novel drug delivery mechanism and tools to accelerate drug discovery.
Ikigai G4S Capital, a U.S.-based accelerator dedicated to building the Japanese community of life science entrepreneurs, and Beyond Next Ventures (BNV), a Japanese accelerator that combines laboratory facilities, advisory services and access to capital for Japanese startups, sponsored the Japanese FAST International program. The participants came from Blockbuster Tokyo, an initiative by the Tokyo Metropolitan government designed to help build a vibrant Japanese life science cluster.
The Japanese program began in fall 2019. Over the course of three months, BNV, Ikigai and CLSI held a series of video meetings with the Japanese entrepreneurs to help structure their presentations. The program then moved to CLSI offices in the days before JPM for a real-time critique by professionals from the Bay Area life science cluster and a final honing of each presentation.
In addition to the JPM presentations, which were well-received, Japanese participants made many valuable contacts during their stay in San Francisco, both at the Biotech Showcase and with CLSI advisors, contacts which will continue to pay dividends as they work to bring their products to market. CLSI and partners hope to build upon this initial success at JPM 2021.
CLSI’s FAST International programs continue to grow. From a start three years ago with work at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, the program now spans partnerships on four continents and eight countries. For more about the FAST International program, contact Steve Karp at email@example.com.
