FAST Fall 2018 graduate, Alla Zamarayeva, CEO of CellFE, presents at the Closing Showcase at Byers Auditorium

CLSI celebrated key milestones at the Fall 2018 FAST Closing Showcase at Byers Auditorium in UCSF San Francisco on December 11, 2018. The Showcase marked the culmination of the Fall program and included presentations from six of the seven graduating FAST companies: CellFE (Cell Fluidics Engineering), developing a unique microfluidic platform to deliver gene-editing molecules into the cells; Dark Horse Solutions, developing an advanced training model that utilizes a pulsatile perfusion pump to simulate cardiac physiology for use in cadavers; Linnaeus Bioscience, developing new assays that allow rapid identification of molecules with novel mechanisms of action in antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals; Mantra Bio, harnessing exosomes for drug delivery to develop highly targeted cell-free therapeutics; Pinpoint Science, developing a new generation of low-cost handheld diagnostics to detect viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens in seconds; and YourChoice Therapeutics, developing non-hormonal, reversible and on-demand contraceptives that can ultimately be used by both women and men.

Akwasi Apori, CEO of Correlia Biosystems, offers a telling FAST Retrospective

The program also opened up with a retrospective from previous FAST graduate, Akwasi Apori, CEO of Correlia Biosystems, who shared his journey from academia, the FAST program, encountering pitfalls, obtaining a $2M seed round, and hopes for a product launch in late 2019. It closed with the announcement of the PharmaDirections JumpStart Award given to Richard Yu of Abalone Bio.
