Six life science startups representing the Kansai region of Japan will present their business plans at the Kansai Pitch Demo Day on March 9/10, with the aim of securing financial and/or business partners in the global market.  The startups are recent participants in CLSI’s FAST Japan: Kansai program, a 10-week advisory session that took place from October through December 2020 with experienced industry veterans from CLSI’s FAST Advisory network.

FAST Japan: Kansai is a collaboration with the Kansai Life Science Accelerator Program, a new mentoring program for life science startups in Japan that was launched in 2020 by Bayer Yakuhin Ltd., Sysmex Corporation, the Kyoto University Medical Science and Business Liaison Organization, the City of Kobe, and the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation at Kobe, in collaboration with the Ikigai Accelerator and the California Life Sciences Institute (CLSI). The program aims to nurture and support startup entrepreneurs and managers, and thus to build up the life science ecosystem of the Kansai region, with strong ties to Silicon Valley forged through CLSI’s advisory network. The collaboration seeks to establish Japanese-American partnerships between the Japanese start-ups and the pharma industry in California.

The Kansai Demo Day comes on the heels of an earlier Medtech Startup Pitch Event that CLSI held with Yokohama Japan in January. Yokohama, the second largest city in Japan, has been selected as one of the country’s “Global Startup Cities” by the Japanese Government for its robust and expanding startup ecosystem. The Yokohama Japan Medtech Startups Pitch Event on January 6, 2021 introduced the attendees to Yokohama-based life science startups who are aiming to expand into the US market. It was hosted by the City of Yokohama through collaboration with California Life Science Institute (CLSI) and Ikigai Accelerator.

Event: March 9 at 5:00pm PST | March 10 at 9:00am PST. For more information about the Kansai Demo Day, contact Shikha Sharma.
