The Bio-link Depot (Depot) is a unique Bay Area 501c3 non-profit organization promoting scientific training and literacy for students, by providing millions of dollars worth of laboratory equipment and supplies at no cost to education institutions. We collect surplus un-used laboratory supplies donated by Bay Area companies, that would otherwise go to waste or landfill, process these at our central facility, and distribute through a series of open houses for educators and researchers from schools, colleges, and universities.
The Depot, operated mostly by volunteers, has been serving the Bay Area educational community for more than 16 years. Our efforts have allowed underserved education institutions to expand their laboratory classes and research programs without any additional outlay for scientific gear. In 2018, the strong partnerships that the Depot has developed with local technology companies, has proven to be beneficial to the STEM education community with greater than 37,000 students being positively impacted. Also in 2018, the Depot was honored to be awarded the California Life Sciences Association (CLSA), Biotech Educator of the Year.
Bio-Link Depot, Inc. is a non-profit 501c3 organization formed in 2015. From 2002 to 2015, City College of San Francisco operated the Depot under Bio-Link, a Nation Science Foundation grant funded program that enhanced biotechnology education through professional development and sharing of information with educators, students, and industry.
