Bio-Link Depot Continues its Track Record of Giving to the Community Under Covid-19
by Hank Stern, Board President, Bio-Link Depot
Bio-Link Depot, a nonprofit based in Oakland, provides scientific supplies and equipment to educators in Northern and Central California at no cost, based on the generous donations from our industry partners. Our organization has been active since 2002 and was awarded the prestigious Pantheon DiNA Biotech Educator of the Year award by CLSA in 2018. After a great kick-off to the year at our mid-February Open House – during which teachers from all over the region travel to equip their under-resourced science labs – the Depot had to temporarily close its doors by order of health authorities to help stem the spread of COVID-19. In March, we realized the Depot could still make an impact supporting our local healthcare workers and were able to rally quickly to donate over 20 cases of protective equipment and gowns to Highland Hospital in Oakland.
Rather than putting our operations on hold, the Depot is now looking into increasing our support for education in this new paradigm. To respect distance guidelines, we will be offering equipment and supplies to classrooms and teachers on an individualized basis. In addition, we will be recruiting new industry partners to support our leveraged approach to promote regional STEM education. Please consider supporting our unique and highly in-demand education resources.
